JStroke ranks the Allegheny River
As Chupacabra wraps up our 10th spring trek, its time to take a paddle upriver and revisit all the rivers we’ve known before and used for our downriver trips.

First up, the Allegheny River. The Allegheny is the first river and the latest river Chupacabra have ventured down. And as we have now been on the Allegheny three times, I feel as though there is some moderate to good experience to draw upon.
In one of my previous posts, I pretty much spilled my Bourbon Mary all over the canoe and revealed my ranking on the Allegheny… so, if you don’t know already, I ranked the Allegheny 2nd to last (See Lessons from the Allegheny). Based on the paddling excitement on the river, the Allegheny is not one of my favorites. The river just doesn’t have the excitement I am looking for to rank it any higher. Rockhound didn’t even find a rock this year! Based on the other rivers I will be ranking, there are too many others that deliver the goods with more riffles, rapids, and excitement!
Now, I’m not down on the Allegheny. A trip on the river still represents a great trip as the campsites are plentiful and the width of the river allows for floating eight-wide down long stretches. It’s a great way to spend the day on the water.
Without spending any more time on it, 2nd to last. Come on back for my next ranking.
