WTH is the deal with pimentos?

Other than being included in a green olive, a lunch meat (pimento loaf), or a cheese spread, what purpose does this pepper serve?

Technically it’s a chili pepper but it’s really mild on the Scoville scale.

Pimentos always remind me of the good ole days in neighborhood where the wild eyed old man with disheveled hair wearing a robe and house shoes used to suck the pimentos out of his bowl of olives and then spit the olives off his front porch. If we happened by his porch at the right time, we had to watch out, he’d tried to get us! You should have seen his yard!

Did you know that the pimento in an olive is just a purée of pimento held together by some sort of gum? (Yuk). It’s rolled out to be cut so that machine can stuff the olives. I may not eat a pimento stuffed olive again. I bet they use that gummy purée in the loaf and the cheese too!

Pimento, you deserve better. We need to liberate the pimento from this oppression.

The pimento has not been included in any camp cuisine or canoe snack that I can recall. At Chupacabra Canoe, we pride ourselves on the all meat diet, although we will throw in some sunflower seeds (sizzlin bacon and ranch mixed for me) and a few apples for fiber. Maybe I can work in a pepper or two in the Brotherhood of the Supper menu.

So c’mon people, join me in bringing back some respect for the pimento. let’s find a way to make the pimento great again. Here are some thoughts

Wrap it in bacon

Stuff it with cheese

Stuff it with sausage

Stuff it with cheese and sausage and wrap it in bacon!

Stuff it with pimento cheese spread! Is that cannibalism for a vegetable?

Is the pimento a vegetable?

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks for reading.
