My Lenten Reflection

Easing back into the regular everyday life Post-Lent, I’ve made a few observations I’d like to share. My family has slowly started to ease back into eating out, hastened by our family spring break vacation and I’ve noticed the food isn’t really that great.  Second, how is it possible I make a better cup of coffee than most coffee houses?

Not being able to eat out for the last 40 days, among other things, soup had become quite a staple for me.  New England clam chowder (white), cream of asparagus, potato, vegetable, etc.  You get the point.  These simplistic culinary delicacies were quite delicious and I must say I did a pretty fantastic job making them.  I’d be proud to serve them to anyone, even the new pope, Pope Francis may he rest in peace.  Now that the family and I are on vacation, we are forced to eat out a bit more than I would probably like.  And, the first thing I noticed is that the food really isn’t that tasty.  There seems to be an understanding amongst restauranteurs to make the food bland.  I don’t get it.  Granted, I’m not eating out at any fancy restaurants, with two kids who are hit and miss on what they’ll eat and inflation still out of control, we aren’t splurging for dinner at the steak houses.  My recommendation, a few simple ingredients and the right seasoning will save your wallet and please your tastebuds.

I took to coffee to help me get over some of the hunger pangs of fasting until 3pm everyday.  Fresh ground beans, it was truly a delight.  I used a simple drip coffee maker.  Could it make a margherita, no.  That’s ok though because it was no alcohol Lent.  Unfortunately, a few times I  had to purchase my coffee.  Wow, what a disappointment.  Is it too much to ask to make it just a tad stronger?  I’m not talking Starbucks over-roasted and bitter coffee.  I mean just add a few more scoops of grounds so I can taste what I’m drinking.  If I wanted water I would have ordered it.

These are just a few of my observations post-Lent.  It’s early so check back for more reflections.  And remember, Code Captain for 10% off in the store!
